NuvoAir, in collaboration with the Royal Brompton adult cystic fibrosis team, have been awarded the Best Health Tech Partnership at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2020 for their project providing a digital solution for self monitoring of lung health and virtual consultations for adults with cystic fibrosis.

Following an extensive judging process, undertaken by a wide range of well-respected figures from across the UK healthcare community, NuvoAir and The Royal Brompton Hospital have been awarded this prestigious award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to healthcare over the past 12 months.

The initiative, which has been running since 2017, has supported around 200 people with cystic fibrosis to monitor their lung health from home with a digital spirometer and self monitoring app on their smartphone. This data can then be shared and viewed by the clinical team and virtual consultations completed to reduce the burden on in-hospital clinic appointments. Recent evaluation has demonstrated significant savings for people with CF in both travel time, cost and time off work and a reduction in clinic appointments of around 30%. Further evaluation is in process to determine the future health economic impacts of enabling self monitoring of health and remote consultation.

On being awarded this accolade, Lorenzo Consoli from NuvoAir comments, “We are absolutely delighted to have been named as the winners in the Best Health Tech Parnterhsip category. It means a great deal to all our staff to be recognized in this way and we’re confident that the positive impact of this award will help to create a long-lasting legacy.” they continue; “This award will provide a tremendous boost to patients at The Royal Brompton Hospital battling respiratory diseases and I am sure it will bolster our efforts to develop and continually improve our services.”

The editor of the Health Service Journal and host of the awards evening, Alastair McLellan, offered his congratulations to the teams on their success, “The entrants this year have been of incredible calibre, and each of the winners at the HSJ Partnership Awards have been chosen based on their outstanding commitment to innovation and collaboration in healthcare, I’d like to offer my congratulations to The Royal Brompton Hospital and NuvoAir on winning the Best Health Tech Partnership Award at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards.”
